Classical Rabbit Painting in Oil Part 1 – Classical Painting Technique Lesson Tutorial


In part 1, I will show how I start a rabbit portrait using the classical painting technique. I first toned my canvas with a creamy orange imprimatura using lead white, red lead and burnt umber. I am using umber to draw and create my underpainting Now I start blocking in my color. I use muted greyish tones mixing green and red I find that using muted tones will create better color harmony and unify the painting. Now I start adding more contrast between shadow and light. I will let this painting dry and add glazes and more details in part 2.
