National Forum on the Literary Arts / Members of steering committee (short version)

The National Forum on the
Literary Arts is a huge opportunity for the literary
community of Canada, to get together, from
all points on the map, in Montreal in
February to talk about, imagine and really blue sky the
future of Canadian literature and writing and publishing,
not only in a national context but in a global one. The National Forum on the
Literary Arts is for me a wonderful opportunity to explore
the working world of literature. By bringing writers together
and people who work in cultural industries, it reminds ourselves
that what we do isn’t some kind of esoteric frivolity that
we all labour away at in our solitudes, but that literature
and the arts are an integral part of what makes us human. We are going to realize that
there are not two solitudes, that we are facing the same
problems, the same situations, whether we are on the
anglophone or francophone side of the table. Through sharing our knowledge
and our understanding, any kind of conflict that
may exist seems to dissipate. I believe it is really going
to be a chance to stop, take stock and see what lies
ahead in our literary ecosystem. I hope that we will
take the opportunity of the digital revolution to
find a way to move forward, to create something new and
exciting in a particularly and specifically Canadian context. I know we’ve done
wonderful things in the past and I’m sure we’re going to do
amazing things in the future.
