The legacy of the school is considerable The first MFA program in the United States, an immensely creative faculty over the decades, and we became a center of focus for the reception of great works of art. The other thing that is a long legacy and this building inherits is the “Iowa Idea.” Art history and studio practice are merged so that one completes and complements the other. We knew that the building itself had to be a work of art in order to command the kind of performance that’s necessary for the school’s legacy to continue. We hope from the initial part that the building would actually inspire the work that was created in the building. What we have is hands-down, without hyperbole, the best visual arts studio building built anywhere on the globe in the last half-century.
